BNP Paribas is France's largest banking group. Net banking product (NBP) breaks down by activity as follows:
- retail banking (61.6%): retail banking activity in France (28% of NBP; 2,139 branches; 7.7million clients at the end of 2013), in Belgium and Luxembourg (13,3%), and Italy (13.3%; 2.3 million clients with BNL). The remainder of the NBP (45.5%) is from international activities (13 million clients, of which 3.5 million in the United States with BancWest) and specialized financial services activities (consumer loans, real estate credit, leasing credit, car fleet management, computer equipment leasing);
- finance and investment banking (22.2%): consulting and capital market activities (62.2% of NBP; merger-acquisition consulting, activities related to the stock, interest, and exchange markets, etc.) and financing (37.8%; financing for acquisitions, projects, raw material transactions, etc.);
- institutional and private management and insurance (16.2%): asset management, private banking activity (No. 1 in France), real estate and on-line brokerage services, insurance and securities services (No. 1 in Europe for retained securities).
At the end of 2013, BNP Paribas was managing EUR557.9 billion in current deposits and EUR617.2 billion in current loans.Net banking product is distributed geographically as follows: France (35%), Europe (42%), Americas (9.9%), Asia and Oceania (6.8%) and other (6.3%).
